ESTEVAN — With the aim to make money, an otherwise-law-abiding former couple embarked on a scheme to smuggle people across the Canada-United States border.
Defence lawyers Nicholas Robinson (for Omoruyi) and Jyoti Haeusler (for Strawford) said their clients were hard-working, law-abiding people until they involved themselves in the scheme before the court.
“We submit this is a situation where a law-abiding, good person, a family man … has more or less made a mistake,” Robinson said of Omoruyi, adding his client is “incredibly remorseful for what he’s done.”
